Engineering Breakthrough Can Mitigate COVID-19 Contamination in Dental Clinics
UIC engineering teams, including MIE faculty and students (led by Farzad Mashayek and involving Jon Komperda in CFD simulations), studied aerosol dispersion. They developed a method using polymer solutions to completely suppress aerosolization from dental tools, leading to a patent filing.
